Abstract |
| The objective of this European project is to design, develop & test a brand-new interactive & pervasive game generation, based on see-through visual interfaces breakthrough & “anytime, anywhere” mobile phones connectivity. In the near future, we can imagine gamers’ community moving to urban games, in which gaming experience space & time frontiers are blurring: game area extends to city’s geographical limits & game time mixes with everyday-life time. Thus, each gamer may become the character of a urban role game, while still living his personal, professional, familial & citizen life. Today, gamers’ community starts moving from home video game consoles to Internet network games, from home video game consoles to portable game consoles & mobile phone gaming, from 1-player-only video games to massive multiplayer video games, to second-life experience & to interactive city games. This European consortium offers to explore such a new market segment in mobile gaming industry. Essilor, the worldwide leader in ophthalmic optics, starts designing light eyewear, than can superimpose all kinds of displays in front of wearer’s natural vision. This informative eyewear will : - be a high-end product in ophthalmic optics market, guaranteeing visual comfort &, if needed, visual correction - have transparent lenses, enabling see-through vision - feature miniaturized electronics & designed frames, allowing day-to-day wear. Other partners in this European project should cover mobile services industry (mobile carrier, LBS provider), mobile gaming industry (video games editor), network industry (network capacities & services provider), handset industry (handset designed & manufacturer), software & graphical interface industry, usages laboratory. Common work & road-map would enable this European consortium to : - Explore market needs & define global specifications - Design & develop appropriate informative eyewear - Define & develop appropriate mobile game - Design & develop physical & graphical game interface - Design & develop mobile application - Design all hardware & software interactions between these different technological elements - Size up network capacities - Explore ergonomics, usages, user experience & potential consumers’ feedback. At the end of this European project, the final objective of the consortium is to get a marketable comprehensive hardware & software package, defining a brand-new mobile gaming service |
