Abstract

With the proliferation of services and cloud infrastructures, nowadays it is easier to perform IT outsourcing, although its benefits are only perceived by large companies. There is a huge market of SMEs in Europe which could take advantage of IT outsourcing, but it is necessary to provide much customized solutions.

Clouds&Me objective is to provide the necessary platform that enables Telecom Operators to create and operate Advanced Virtual Desktops (AVDs) for SMEs. The proposed solution will allow telecom operators to create customized offers to SMEs for IT outsourcing, by providing a desktop which includes only the applications needed, running on a set of optimized resources, improving their core business while decreasing management tasks.

For doing so, the consortium will perform research in the following topics: development of a marketplace and a programming model according to the platform needs, tools for generating AVDs which are built automatically and are adaptable, an underlying cloud platform which will manage, configure and optimize resources (not only for services and applications, but also for the execution of AVDs) and tools for providing generic services in the cloud platform (accounting, billing, licenses management, trust, etc...).

Finally, results will be tested in scenarios provided by telecom operators and partners directly related to final end users, as a way to validate the project results, improve any exploitation effort and increase adoption rate of the outcomes developed. For doing so, the consortium will be formed by ten experienced partners coming from three different countries (Spain, Turkey and Poland) and with different roles (industry, telecom operators, SMEs and research centres), as a balanced group, which will guarantee high quality results.
