| Celtic Project Web space Celtic offers for each project its own free web space for both public and secure project web pages. Web pages, as well as any other project file, are stored on the project ftp space, which is accessed through the following standard address scheme: celtic-<project acronym>@ftp.celtic-initiative.org. With a ftp client (e.g. FlashFXP) the user logs in with the project group account (as already communicated to you a while ago). The normal "public" HTML goes straight into the project top folder. The "secure" sub-folder asks for password when accessed via HTTP and can also be used as FTP transfer space using the project account. They can of course add sub-folders to the "secure" folder and to the "public" top level folder. Note: the default project home page should be named index.html (not index.htm as this will not automatically load the home page!) Note: the "secure" folder is invisible in the HTTP directory index, so you don't see it (via HTTP) but it is there. Creating and publishing a project web Depending on your experience and tools available for creating the project web pages the standard procedures would be as follows: 1) You create the complete project web on your local server/PC using a HTML editor or a more advanced web editore (e,g, MS Frontpage or Dreamweaver). 2) As soon as all pages have been created you have to upload all web pages to the Celtic ftp server using the links above. 3) If you are using MS Frontpage you have a rather convenient method to publish your pages directly to the ftp. Please have a look to the very nice tutorial explaining the procedures in more details. For Dreamweaver (or others) similar methods are possible. For secure web sites (project intra-nets) the default folder is "secure". Important note: The default ftp account pages may be asked to be deleted when publishing the web. Please do not delete files starting with a "." (e.g. secure/.htaccess). These files are needed to protect your secure space! Project URL Once all files are published your project web is accessible for the public using a URL that follows the scheme: www hostname for "projectXYZ" is http://projects.celtic-initiative.org/projectXYZ. In case of problems or lost log-in account please contact the Celtic Office or our help desk. |
