Celtic - Telecommunication Solutions
For European Leadership in Telecommunications

Celtic* is a EUREKA cluster and the only European R&D programme in ICT fully dedicated to end-to-end telecommunication solutions. Celtic initiates and runs  privately and public funded ICT/ telecommunications R&D projects. It is supported by most of the major European players in communication technologies. Celtic projects are focusing at telecoms networks, applications, and services looking at a complete end-to-end system approach. The size of the Celtic budget is in the range of 1 billion euro. Celtic projects are open to any kind of company and organisation from all EUREKA countries.

Celtic Awards granted to three successful projects
Three, very successfully closed projects, received the Celtic Awards 2009, which were handed over at the Celtic Event in Valencia.

  • The Gold Award received the project TRAMMS;
  • The Silver Award was given to the project B21C, and
  • The Bronze Award received the project EnComPAs-2

MADEIRA: New technologies for better network management

Cooperation with European Technology Platforms
Celtic and the following ETP have agreed on a closer cooperation within their Strategic Research Agendas (SRA) and the Celtic work programme. For the time being this cooperation will be assured through observers at the Steering Boards. The SRA of the ETP are also possible work items for Celtic projects.

Public Safety Communication Europe With the support of the European Commission, “Forum for Public Safety Communication Europe” has been established in order to facilitate consensus building in the area of public safety communication and information management systems. This Forum invites users and policy makers, industrials (technology and service providers), research organizations and standard making authorities to reach consensus on security related subjects.

 

Celtic-Plus has received the EUREKA label
On 23 June Celtic-Plus, the extension of Celtic until 2019 has received the EUREKA label. The budget expectation for this cluster are expected to remain in the same range as for Celtic (i.e. around 700 million euro): Beginning 2011 the first call for Celtic-Plus will be launched. The Celtic Plus research program  is described in the new Celtic-Plus Purple Book.


Celtic Call 8 (FPP-Phase) is running
The Celtic Call (Call 8) PO Phase has been recently closed. The proposers of the selected proposals have been invited submit a full project description (FPP) until 15 October 2010. It may be possible, in exceptional cases, to accept FPP proposal submissions even without a prior PO. This requires, however, advanced approval of the Celtic Core Group. Successful Celtic Event 2010 and
Celtic Information and Brokerage Day

The Celtic Initiative organised its 5th official Celtic Event from 12th and 13th April 2010 in Valencia/ Spain.

This Event was embedded in a whole week's conference, titled, "FP7 European Innovation and RTD Transforming Sectors Week" from 12 to 16 April 2010, co-organised with the Spanish Ministry, the EU Commission and the FIA (Future Internet Assembly).

12 Celtic Call 7 labelled projects

On 3rd December 2009 the Celtic Core Group and the Public Authorities assessed and labeled in total 12 new projects. The list of accepted proposals and contact details to the project coordinator are found here.



The Celtic Purple Book - Version 2007-2009

The Celtic Initiative has produced the Celtic Purple Book that describes the Celtic objectives and strategy towards the Celtic goal of a European leadership in telecommunications.
